Facebook acquired iPad book maker Push Pop Press for an undisclosed amount - Computers - Software

Facebook on Tuesday acquired iPad book maker Push Pop Press for an undisclosed amount. The purchase set off rumors about whether Facebook was trying to get into the publishing business, though official statements from both companies suggest otherwise.Push Pop Press, founded by Apple veterans, is known for publishing an innovative iPad ebook by Al Gore. The official blog post from Push Pop Press said, "Although Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook."

Facebook echoed similar sentiments in an official statement yesterday, choosing not to address any potential publishing initiatives: "We can't wait for co-founders Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris to get started, and for some of the technology, ideas and inspiration behind Push Pop Press to become part of how millions of people connect and share with each other on Facebook."

And although Facebook might not have any immediate ambitions of getting into the publishing world, there may be plans down the line. The opportunities are astronomical. The same way Google leveraged millions of users from Gmail, Picasa and other widely used Google services for its Google+ debut, Facebook could leverage its millions of users for a publishing model. The company could easily create a digital bookstore seamlessly integrated with the social network. This would be a huge boon to authors and publishers, especially small independent ones, who would gain the potential to reach out directly to their social network to engage their fans, and to promote and sell their books directly on the Facebook platform.

This is just speculation, of course, though it seems like a natural step for Facebook. After all, its Google rival has the eBookstore, so why not follow suit with something a little more innovative?/laptop-battery/hp-dv6000.htm

More immediately however, Facebook will probably use Push Pop Press's technology to help refine its much-anticipated Facebook iPad app. TechCrunch recently reported what it believed to be the secret iPad app hidden within the code of Facebook's phone app. Once the story broke, Facebook quickly blocked access to the alleged app.WholesaleeShop.com.au Works with "Super Quality, Satisfactory Services"WholesaleeShop.com.au works for providing high quality goods to all businessmen, such as eBay sellers, distributors, store owners, retailers, drop shippers and small wholesalers at competitive prices. Abiding by the principle of "Super Quality, Satisfactory Services", we are striving hard to be your good business partner. With our joint efforts, we are convinced that the business between us would bring much benefit to both of us.Speculation over a Facebook iPad app has been buzzing around the Web for months. The recent code leak and purchasing of the iPad book maker should hint to the fact that such an app is set to ship sooner rather than later. And although Facebook remains silent on the matter, expect a Facebook iPad app soon--and perhaps more surprising innovations, as Facebook fights to keep its place on the top of the social networking world./laptop-battery/asus-eee-pc-1000.htm

Paid Online Surveys

How to find the best paid survey sites

There are several online sites that will pay you to take surveys. We will discuss some of them shortly, but first a word of warning. There are sites that promise to pay you for taking surveys but their real aim is very different. Naming any of these would not help much, because they tend to close up and then re-open under another name. Some of these sites actually act as fronts for companies promoting free trial offers. These companies offer to let you sample their product for a short time for free. In order to do this, you must agree to purchase whatever it is they are selling with the option to change your mind at no cost, provided you do so before the free period expires. If it is something you receive in the mail or by UPS, such as a video instruction course, your trial period may expire before you receive the product. Most of these outfits will not allow you to cancel your commitment online; the only option is a phone call. The best thing to do is just stay away from pa id survey sites like this. You will have difficulties getting your signup cancelled before you have to pay for it, and inevitably there will be a glitch somewhere that will mean you paid for something you did not want and then have to try to get your money back. Try these sites if you wish, but they will probably end up costing you money.

One other thing to stay away from is any site that wants your cell phone number for enrollment. As a matter of fact, entering your cell phone number almost anywhere on the Web is not a good idea. Those numbers are often sold to companies that provide cell phone messaging services, like a daily horoscope or weather reports. They charge about ten dollars a month and they like to sign you up without your knowledge or consent. If you find this has happened, the easiest way to stop it is to open one of the messages and reply STOP. This will nearly always shut it down and you will not be charged.

So are there sites that will actually pay you to take surveys? Yes, there are. Do not quit your day job just yet, but you can pick up a few extra dollars. Try all of these: Daily Survey Panel, Toluna, Opinion Outpost, ERG Surveys (also known as edu), and My Survey.

Daily Survey Panel actually has more than its title implies. There are multiple surveys available every day, and if you do not qualify for one, you can just click and try another one. They rarely have surveys that pay cash. Instead, you get points for completing a survey. When you have enough points, you can turn them in for a gift card for places like Amazon and Olive Garden. Requests for payment are usually processed right away, so your Amazon gift card, for example, will usually be available within a couple of days.

Toluna also awards points for completed surveys but when you have enough, you can trade the points for cash. They are slow about paying, but eventually you do get a check in the mail. They have lots of surveys available, so you can reach the $20 minimum for payout in a reasonable amount of time.

Opinion Outpost is a bit different. They award points for completing a survey, but those points translate directly into cash. They have fairly frequent opportunities, which pay anywhere from one dollar to eight or ten dollars. An interesting twist is that, if you do not qualify for a survey, you are offered an opportunity to either enter a sweepstakes or spin an electronic slot machine for a chance at $50. The slot really does offer an opportunity to win $50, and if you win, they do pay. I have done it twice and in both cases received a check for fifty dollars.

ERG Surveys (also known as edu) has both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, they pay cash, not points or gift cards. They also seem to have a steady supply of surveys. If you sign up with this site, you should check it every day. There will nearly always be a new one, and sometimes as many as six new ones in a single day. The downside of this site is they are the slowest people on the Internet. They do not credit your account with a completed survey until they have completed their contractual obligation with the party that provided the survey, and that can take several weeks, sometimes months. They are also extremely slow in paying. It takes several weeks from when you request a payment for them to actually post it.

MySurvey does not have a large number of surveys available. On the other hand, when they send you an email saying they have a survey for you, you will be able to click the link, take the survey, and add the credits to your account. You will not have to spend ten minutes filling out information only to be told you do not qualify for that survey. Surveys are paid in points, which can be exchanged for cash (and they pay fairly promptly) or things like movie rental gift cards.

Taking surveys online is not going to make you rich. It is, however, pretty easy to pick up an extra 20 or 30 dollars a month and it will not take a lot of time.

Shaw Capital Management Scam Info: Don't fall for 'First Exposure: iPhone 5' Facebook scam - Business - Management

Shaw Capital Management Scam Info: Don't fall for 'First Exposure: iPhone 5' Facebook scam

by Elinor Mills

Facebook users are being duped into unwittingly spreading spam by clicking on what looks like a link to news entitled "First Exposure: iPhone 5."A version of the scam, exploiting peoples' interest in the next-generation iPhone, went around Facebook earlier this month, and it's back today with minor changes. The scam starts when you see someone in your social network comment on a link in a post that looks like it leads to a news story about the iPhone 5 at a Web address of "greatlakesnews.info." Clicking on the link takes you to a different Web page, which provides a captcha window where you're asked to verify a word, ostensibly to prove that you are not an automated bot.

Once you click to verify, a message is posted to your Facebook stream notifying all your friends that you commented on the item and providing them with the bogus iPhone 5 link, in a type of attack known as "clickjacking." Then you're asked to choose from a list of items that then lead to a survey which is really marketing, according to this M86 post.Clickjacking can be a problem on any Web site, but social networks are particularly susceptible because people share so many links. Facebook's advice to not click on strange links even if they are from friends would cut out many of the legitimate links people share on Facebook. It's good idea to try to avoid getting news from sources that aren't known news sites. But a big red flag is the captcha window--legitimate sites don't typically make you prove you're human to read a news item.

Technology News in India - Technology

Since the time technology has come to inhabit our daily lives in a major way, there is no point in remaining blissfully ignorant about its constant evolution. Every day one comes across stray news regarding the launch of some revolutionary iPhone or the improvement of an existing line of laptops. However, often such news becomes difficult to track down to a credible source thereby making it impossible for interested customers to make further queries. Technology blogs are a great source of organized information. No wonder they have garnered so much popularity in the present times!

There are several advantages attached to such blogs. They are web pages that offer readers a free site where news about the latest innovations in technology are made available. Since the internet has already invaded almost every home and is at the disposal of people of every age and profession, it will not be right to state that such technology blogs would only be noticed by tech geeks.

Google has been popularizing up its transportation search features for desktop and mobile, but now it is shifting into full on travel mode with its Hotel Finder experiment.

The Next Web reports that the utility is "designed to help users find the desired hotel." Easier said than done, of course, but maybe something that Google creates is just crazy enough to work.

Google's Hotel Finder (not to be confused with can find the ideal accommodation for a particular user based on a few different priorities, such as location and budget. For example, when searching for where to stay, the user can draw shapes around neighborhoods using a mouse rather than searching by individual addresses.

Other helpful tools include being able to compare hotels easily within the same browser tab featuring photos and reviews of different hotels, along with the option to keep a "shortlist" for ones that might catch a traveler's eye.

Again, Google's application the hotel Finder is still under experimental phase (and it might have that similar name to worry about), thus don't expect it to work so perfectly just yet. Additionally, it's only available for finding hotels in the United States at this time.

In related Google travel/transit news, Google has officially added the London Underground to its repertoire of information for public transit agencies. Info on transport for London includes over 18,000 bus stops and over 250 Underground stations. Note that the provided data refers to planning trips, getting directions, and general location information--not real-time alerts and schedules.

Nevertheless, it's a good start--especially if you're planning to attend the Summer Olympics in London next summer, which starts one year from yesterday.

Google today also announced the the Page Speed Service project for improving load times by up to 60 percent.

Mobile phones

PDA-enabled Mobile phones, more commonly known as smart phones do have a Digital Organiser, Excel, Word and Internet capabilities- all in one phone. Such devices even have integrated camera and a MP3 player. These smartphones does have large displays and allow you to write into it (after you learn the easy technique). The voice recognition capabilities are quite imminent in such devices. All of these and more features does make the phone bulkier and costlier but then these gizmos sure do separate the men from the boys.

Using your cell phone as a modem:

A user can connect to the Internet using your cell phone as a modem. For this your cell phone should support HSCSD(High Speed Circuit Switched Data). If the device supports HSCSD, you can connect to a laptop, desktop or a PDA, using infrared, data cable or Bluetooth and then dial your ISP connection. This method is useful if you want to check some urgent mails or access a site when on the go. The connectivity is slow and also is expensive as compared to a normal Internet connection using a modem. The consumer pays the ISP for the Internet hours and the cell phone service provider for the airtime charges. With active Internet connection, you can download a variety of groovy ringtones, logos, and graphics to jazz up your phone. If you are tired of the monophonic tones, polyphonic ringtones is the latest craze. All phones do not support poplyphonic ringtones, especially the old models. If your phone does, you can download a range of polyphonic ringtones from the Internet. What 's more, you can even acquire inform tion about current news, movies, stock markets, weather, forecasts, jokes etc. All this is just a click away from your phone and all for a nominal fee. Checking email, acquiring information about current news, movies, stock markets, weather etc. is just a click away from your mobile phone.

Digital cameras

Digital cameras are getting much compact and fully loaded with an array of features suitable for the common man as well as for the professionals. Since last year it has been noticed that a big change in the way different cameras have pushed to provide larger mega pixels. For a layman, it simply means that if a camera has larger mega pixels, it can be able to provide a larger size in print outputs.

With emerging technologies, there are cameras which are being developed where the image stills and videos can be directly uploaded via FTP with the built-in modem in the camera. There are even cameras which can be connected to a network through a LAN card in the camera. These days there are even wireless cards in a camera giving more connectivity power.

Defining And Understanding The Android?s Features And Popularity

Defining what an Android (Android) is can be much more difficult than understanding the Androids popularity. The generic definition of android refers to a robot designed to look and imitate the actions of a human. There are a lot of these android-like phones on the market. Like androids, their function is to perform useful automated tasks for the cell phone user. The Google Android is actually one brand of an android-like cell phone. To those who dont know better, its just a hot little cell phone with some really cool features. But the more technology inclined users know that the Android is actually an operating system and it functions as a software platform. That is one reason Androids are so popular. They have awesome computer capabilities.

One advertisement identified the Google Android as being the Future of Mobile. This is an understandable statement because cell phone users are constantly on the go. Theres no better way to stay plugged in to their entire digital universe than an Android. Googles Android has become synonymous for android-like phones. Each enhancement makes the newest version bigger and better than the last. People generally assume youre referring to a Google Android when talking about an android cell phone. The remainder of this article helps in defining and understanding some of the popular features that have kept Google Android on top.

What Android Users Want

There is a big difference between recognizing key features in the Android and understanding how to use those features to your advantage. Android cell users figured this out. They are the reason the Android leads the pack in this type of cell phone technology. Todays cell phone user doesnt just want to have various features on their phone for show. They want toactually use those features and get the most out of them. That is why, among the many attractive smart phones (as android-like phones are also called), the Android continues to enjoy top status. The touch screen and GPS capabilities have become standard features that Android consumers look for. But the Android is capable of so much more. Cell phone owners dont even have to wait for upgrades or manufacturer modifications. They can take a hands-on approach and make changes to their Android themselves. This has proven to be one of the major appeals of the Android cell phone.

Android Apps and Applications

Its not difficult to look online and find a long list of Android features and enhancements. Countless blogs and websites serve no other purpose but to keep their finger on the pulse of all things Android. That includes informing readers about newer versions and competitors that are not far behind Googles Android. Thus far, the Motorola Droid has made a point of staying on the Androids heels. The HTC Droid Incredible and the HTC EVO 4G have also continued to make a good showing. Many features on these other phones mimic Googles Android but apparently dont perform as impressively. With superior data management and media interaction capabilities, Google Androidis the consumers choice. A big part of the reason for the phones success is the open source form of development.

Open Source Development

Open source is a type of development that allows users to make their own modifications. This form of Android development has given birth to the phrases Android Apps and Android Applications. Both expressions literally flood the internet, as Android users continue to create more efficient applications. Those users who arent inclined towards developing Apps dont have to worry. They can take advantage of the pre-loaded WebKit application included in the phone. This application can support a large number of different audio and video media. In addition to still formats, the Android has no problem accommodating MPEG-4, AAC and OGG media forms.

Defining and Understanding Features

Sometimes consumers who are in the market for an Android dont fully understand the features mentioned in advertisements. The anagrams MMS and SMS may mean nothing to those who are not particularly tech savvy. On the other hand, they can appreciate knowing that the Android has excellent text messaging and web browsing capabilities. Users can understand and relate to that better. The same is true, when discussing how the Android can adapt to graphic libraries containing VGA, 2D, and 3D file types. Most users merely need to understand that their photos, videos and graphic images will display better with an Android.

When addressing the average cell phone user, no technical jargon is needed to describe the Androids features. Its better to explain to consumers in simple terms how the Android is compatible with their existing Bluetooth. Users need to understand how a feature like adaptability to a variety of technologies applies to them. Make them realize how that particular feature translates into: You can use your Android with your existing smart phone and you also have access to your WiFi.

Advantages of Having Android Features

The list of Android features may seem endless to some, but ultimately, they all exist due to 3 major advantages. The 3 biggest advantages of the Android are:

1) The Android is an operating system that is capable of functions similar to working on your home or office computer

2) The Android is an open source product, which allows users to modify and create their own applications for use on their cell phones.

3) Every Android display and input and output feature was specifically designed with mobile users in mind.

Cell phone users who possess an Android can benefit more when they understand how powerful the major advantages are. It is these advantages that have helped to make the Android the popular product that it is today.

How Smart Is Your Smart Phone Choice?

In today`s busy world, people live and work differently than they did mere decades ago. Businesspeople and teenagers alike feel a constant need to be in touch with colleagues and friends. Whether it is keeping up with the stock market or finding out who asked who out on a date, the exchange of information is always flowing and no one wants to be left out of it.

Smart phones provide the solution for people who need to be in touch while they are on the go. The devices generally have phone call capability as well as a built-in organizer/calendar functionality, web browsing ability and email and texting applications. Many smart phones can run word processing and spreadsheet software, allowing a user to have a virtual office literally in the palm of his or her hand.

The options are wide and varied in terms of features and price. A selection of top Smart Phone choices include: Apple iPhone 3GS, Motorola Droid, HTC Touch Pro2, Blackberry Bold 9700 and the Palm Pre. They have some shared features and each has its own unique attributes.

Some see Apple`s iPhone as the ultimate Smart Phone. Many people eagerly anticipated the original version`s entrance to the market and Apple did not disappoint. The 3GS, the newest version, is worth its price tag. It is very slim and lightweight and has an attractive looking touchscreen with large icons. Everything you could need is at your fingertips, from a calendar to your email to a variety of other applications that can be downloaded easily. On the downside, there have been complaints about call quality and access to the 3G network.

The Motorola Droid is a strong competitor to the iPhone, running on Google`s Android platform as opposed to Apple. The Droid has a touch screen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard, which may be easier for some people to use. The Droid is slightly larger and heavier than the iPhone, but it surpasses the iPhone in terms of call quality and picture quality on the screen.

The HTC Touch Pro is larger and heavier than the iPhone and the Droid and is also more expensive. It is more appropriate and useful for the business user as it runs Windows Mobile and comes with conference call management tools. It also has a high-quality and large touch screen as well as a pop-out QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the Droid`s keyboard which some have found unwieldy to use, the HTC Touch Pro`s keyboard manages to have enough space between the keys to make typing very easy. The phone provides excellent call quality and is a great solution for the businessperson on the go.

The Blackberry Bold complements Blackberry`s line of smart phones and adds a little more style to their selection with its sleeker design. Because the keyboard is part of the main body of the phone rather than a pop-out, the screen on the Blackberry Bold is obviously smaller than that of the iPhone, Droid or HTC Touch Pro. It is a question of personal preference, as some people would rather sacrifice the screen size for the convenience of having the keyboard always accessible. While Blackberry users are generally satisfied with the products, the web browser lags behind that of the other smart phones in terms of ease of use.

Finally, there is the Palm Pre, which has been hyped as another major competitor to the iPhone. The Palm Pre is smaller than the iPhone but with a similar look in terms of a simple touch screen. The screen provides a very high quality picture and is easy to navigate. For those that prefer the keyboard experience, there is a QWERTY keyboard that is easily accessible, although small and not so easy to use. Where the Palm Pre stands out over other smart phones is in its multi-tasking capability. It is simple to run several applications at once and easy to switch back and forth among them.

The choices are limitless when it comes to choosing a Smart Phone. As with most things, it is all about personal preferences and finding the one that has the features that best suit you.

The New Sprint WiMax; The Newest and Best Broadcast System For Smart Phones?

A normal WiFi local area network (LAN) is good for sending and receiving signals for laptops, computers, cell phones and smart phones anywhere from one to three hundred feet or so from fixed-base routers (LAN IEEE 802.11standard), that broadcast at 2.5 GHz. The problem associated with the 802.11 standard routers for LANs is that a router is needed at variable points in a large home, let alone at large businesses, or outdoors where there may be more static interference. So, what is Sprint WiMax, and what does it offer?

Sprint WiMax offers up to 10 Mega-Bits per second (MPS) at up to 10 Kilometers (KM) from the signal generator of clean, fast and uninterrupted signals. WiMax could be considered something akin to a WiFi LAN on steroids, at IEEE 802.16 standard, WiMax allows customers a total and fast LAN wireless broadband access anywhere within 30 miles of a fixed-base station transmitter, and from three to five miles of a portable, mobile station transmitter.

The drawback of using a WiMax signal is that in city environments, the line-of-sight signal strength can be diminished from the 10 MPS at 10 KM that the Sprint WiMax promises in rural areas, to less than 10 MPS at 2 KM due to signal interference from highrise buildings, other signal generators, and other causes of line-of-sight signal interference in urban areas.

The formation of WiMax was realized as a partnership with the top internet and smart phone service providers, with the goal in mind to set 4-G broadband service globally available for wireless connectivity. With over 500 service providers already signed up, WiMax has the potential to be the biggest smart phone service provider, making their money the honest way, with full accountability and a service based on customer satisfaction. And when customers no longer need to find a wall jack to surf the web, check on email or chat with friends, they tend to be so happy that they spread their trust of, and faith in the brand by word-of-mouth advertising, the best advertising network available to mankind.

Aside from the considerable distances from relay towers that a customer can get a strong signal on thier smart phones and laptops with, WiMax enables extremely fast web browsing, and supports the Android platform, making way for all Google/Motorola future endeavours, above and beyond the Droid and Devour smart phones currently taking the market by storm. But WiMax does not end there, all 3-G and 4-G, as well as cell phone service providers can jump on board and use the system, for nominal fees, and give their customers the bigger umbrella and faster speeds of coverage that the WiMax platform provides.

WiMax does not discriminate against brands or services; any brand or service is welcome to join their total umbrella service. However, the best scenario for the optimum use of the WiMax system is three to four carriers per WiMax signal with no obstructions in the line-of-sight from the relay towers that generate the signal to the laptops, cell and smart phones that make use of the signals.

So far, Sprint and Clearwire are using the WiMax platform, and Intel and Samsung have signed on for setting their handheld devices to WiMax standards, along with many other, less known handset manufacturers. If you want to use the WiMax system, and are in the market for a new 3-G or 4-G smart phone, your best bet is to ask if the phone that you are interested in can be used on the WiMax system.

Shop smart, shop informed.

A Look At Where The Smart Phone Industry Is Headed In 2010.

A look at where the smart phone industry is heading in 2010 shows us that it will be the year of advancement and universality in combining smart phones, personal electronic gadgets and home entertainment control and use under one umbrella. Whether owning Apple, Nexus or Google, the more popular smart phone suppliers at the moment, smart phone owners will be snatched as soon as they are released. The growing number and exciting improvement in the usabiltiy of the applications (apps) is only just beginning, and 2010 may just be know as "the year of the apps".

The new electronics gear and apps that these entertainment giants are soon to be stocking the shelves and the Google Apps Store, recently changed to reflect their wares more properly to "The Android Apps Market", are mostly designed to make life easier for the smart phone owner. 2010 will also be the year that smart phone suppliers and carriers will make the customer priority number one, as opposed to making gouging the customers priority number one.

The smart phone sindustry is also headed into the home entertinment industry, with televisions being included in their wares in the not-so-distant future. With a good lock on a sizeable share of the personal telecommunications business, both Apple and Google have television sets in their sights, with Apple seemingly the first to get theirs to market in late 2010 or early 2011.

At the moment, Google has a set-top box that is used for changing your television into a multimedia display, but a television set is in their future, and should be announced in early- to mid-2010. Sony will be making a giant leap into the market in 2010, with a smart phone and an applications (apps) network, which will make a smart phone even smarter, or turn your home into a smart home. 2010 will see Sony trying to get back to the top of the home entertainment industry, as well as the personal telecommunications industry.

With more players recently added, and even more soon to be added to the personal telecommunications service markets, new cell phone carriers will be focusing their on making their products compliant with either the Android or the Windows platforms. The consumer will be the one to benefit the most from advancements in 2010, as the way we buy smart phones is changing, as well as the way we pick and choose our carriers.

Following the lead of the Nexus One smart phone and network, where the consumer picks the smart phone they like, and then select the carrier and plan that best suits them, most carriers will be offering more personalized monthly plans. The process of buying the plan and then the phone is going the way of the Dodo bird.

The day of the generic smart phone carrier plan will soon come to an end, and 2010 seems like it could be the year to see more consumer benefits finally implemented. Gone will be the days of buying a service plan, and getting the phone for free or at a greatly reduced price as long as a three-year plan is signed. As people are finally seeing through the greediness of the current batch of smart phone carriers, they may be induced into changing carriers, and trying out one of the newer players.

2010 will see more transparency and fewer hidden fees, if any, as will the extra fees for extra bandwidth use disappear; the consumer will be given carrier plans that have full disclosure up front. A cell phone service plan that is advertised at $34.95 will cost you $34.95, and no longer approach the $70 mark.

With the release of the Google and Motorola combined endeavour in the Droid smart phone, and it's quick successor, the Motorola Devour, as well as the Nexus One and other well made, easy to use smart phones, the future of the smart phone is now, and 2010 will see refinements, an increase in the clarity of calls and the reduction of dropped calls and static interference. Not only will consumers be able to select the phone that they want and then pick their carrier and plan, but they will be able to return smart phones and get a major portion of what they spent on it back towards any upgrades on their chosen models of smart phones.

It seems that the most irritating thing about smart phones lately is the relatively short battery life, and the fact that the smart phones that they buy become obsolete within months of buying their fancy new gadgets. Batteries will be introduced that have significantly longer lasting stand-by and operating times. As well, service providers will be allowing the consumer to exchange their smart phones for newer models by the same manufacturer within three to six months of the original purchase date, if the newer models outshine or replace the model they purchased. 2010 will also see the end of the days of buying the newest and fanciest smart phone to be released, only to see it be replaced by a better model within a few months, as the Devour replaced the Droid.

2010 seems like it is going to be a banner year for smart phones, and for putting them in as many hands as possible. Smart phones will no longer be for the business class, nor for the relatively well-off, but be accessible to people from all walks of life. For example, the Nexus One is currently selling in the $500 to $600 range, when purchased without a carrier plan. When purchased with a three-year plan, that price drops to from about a hundred dollars to almost, if not, free. However, with the cost of the service plan included over the three-year period, as compared to the cost of the phone while using a selected carrier and plan, as well as the option to use pay-as-you-go, the handset prices are actually very competitive.

However, 2010 may also be the year that the consumer finally comes to their senses and stops buying each new smart phone as they come to market. Knowing full well that the prices will be dropping relatively soon, consumers may be waiting for the manufacturers to come down to their price range before buying smart phones. Without being tied down to three-year plans that are heavy on extra bandwidth and other hidden and extra fees, the consumer will be saving money. Money which they can now spend on accessories and not-for-free apps for their smart phones.

2010 may finally be the year of the consumer. Shop smart, shop informed.A look at where the smart phone industry is heading in 2010 shows us that it will be the year of advancement and universality in combining smart phones, personal electronic gadgets and home entertainment control and use under one umbrella.

Buy the Best Cell Phone

When deciding the best cell phone to buy, consider getting a smart phone. A smart phone is one that has data, texting and, of course the ability to make phone calls. Data is the same as the internet and it's like having a mini computer at your finger tips. If you don't have a laptop, a smart phone is great because it works just like a laptop, only smaller!

Consider investing in a touch phone, unless you like the feel of actual buttons. A touch phone tends to have a larger screen which makes it easier to read. I have the Apple iPhone 3GS and I love it! It has twice the battery life and twice the speed as the first Apple iPhone, the 3G. It is extremely user friendly - just about anyone could pick it up and figure it out! Keep in mind that some people prefer the Blackberry and its buttons. If you have the opportunity, try out both a touch phone and one with buttons to see which one you prefer.

Another new smart phone that has recently debuted on the market is the Motorola Droid. The Motorola Droid is incredibly fast and has excellent picture/screen quality. It is truly giving the Apple iPhone a run for its money. This phone is definitely worth looking at.

A less expensive option is the newest BlackBerry, the RIM BlackBerry Bold. This smart phone does indeed have a smaller price than the iPhone or the Droid, but it also has a much smaller screen. If you're already hooked on the BlackBerry this could be the upgrade you've been waiting for!

Apple Ipad 2 vs Motorola Xoom

On one hand, we have the Motorola XOOM thats backed with the overhauled Android 3.0 Honeycomb experience, and bevy of next-generation hardware to keep it up with the times for a while. And of course, there is the iPad 2, which uniquely modified our perception with its intricate razor thin profile while still making some moderate improvements over its predecessor. Precisely on schedule, these two juggernauts in the tablet arena will undoubtedly capture the attention of the world right now, but which one will keep you interested in the long run?

Design:

Unsurprisingly, the iPad 2 obliterates all prior notions of what tablet design should follow since it literally blew off the front cover with its amazingly thin razor profile. Even though we might think that the Motorola XOOMs 0.50 thickness is respectable, the 0.34 thickness of the iPad 2 makes for an instant jaw dropping realization especially when Apple touts that its battery life is unchanged. Even more for the iPad 2, we prefer its brushed aluminum casing seeing that its better equipped at repelling scratches, debris, and fingerprints. Unfortunately for the XOOM, its metallic rear casing is awfully prone to retaining dirt and is rather difficult to clean as well. Give any individual a choice between the two, the attention grabber easily goes to the iPad 2 nine out of ten times.

The Apple iPad 2 (left) is thinner than the Motorola XOOM (right)

Barely considered a major difference, the Motorola XOOM sports the larger of the two screens with its sizeable 10.1 LCD display versus the 9.7 IPS display of the iPad 2. Even though the XOOM boasts a higher resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, it doesnt drastically offer any better clarity or detail over the iPad 2s resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. However, its obvious that the iPad 2 produces richer looking colors since darker colors, like black, appear to look smokey in tone on the XOOM. Moreover, the viewing angles on the iPad 2 are superb which make it supremely better to view in outdoor settings. Lastly, the oleophobic coating on the iPad 2s display makes it very easy to clean versus the XOOM.

In our experience, there are rare instances when we would accidentally press the virtual buttons of the Motorola XOOM. Still, the springy home button of the iPad 2 soundly eliminates any hint of potentially pressing it by accident.

Placed in a familiar location, the dedicated power button of the iPad 2 still retains that prominence which is equally complemented by its solid tactile feel. Uncharacteristically, the XOOMs recessed power button is located in the back of the tablet, however, it perfectly lines up with our index finger as we hold it in landscape.

Without a doubt, the volume rocker of the iPad 2 is exponentially better than the tiny and rather stiff felling volume buttons with the XOOM. In addition to that, we find the silence switch of the iPad 2 to come in handy for quickly turning off its speaker.

Since the iPad 2 carries over the same single speaker, its nice to see that the XOOM employs two speakers, left and right, which enables it to deliver stereo sound. However, the speaker grill with the iPad 2 is placed more at an angle which aids it in better dispersing audio.

And if you want to easily share content, youll probably adore the list of traditional ports on the Motorola XOOM like its microUSB and microHDMI ports. Specifically, you can output the XOOMs display to your high-definition television by simply connecting it with an HDMI cable. But if you want to do the same thing with the iPad 2, youll need to purchase its optional digital HDMI adapter that snaps into the proprietary 30-pin port.

When it comes down to cameras, the XOOM manhandles the iPad 2 in this category since it features a front-facing 2.0-megapixel camera and a rear 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with dual-LED flash. Comparing it to the iPad 2s paltry 0.3-megapixel front facing camera and less than 0.7-megapixel rear camera, its already giving away a good indication as to which one will provide the better quality.

Despite not having easy access to their batteries, its nice to see that you can increase the storage capacity of the XOOM thanks to its microSD card slot. At the same time, it enables you to quickly share content whereas on the iPad 2, youll need to connect its USB cable to get things transferred.

The sides of the Apple iPad 2 (top) and the Motorola XOOM (bottom)

Finally, the XOOM still has one ace up its sleeve that has yet to show itself that will give it faster data speeds than the iPad 2. Down the road, the XOOM will be retrofitted with a 4G LTE modem that will provide next-generation data speeds which will outperform the 3G speeds found with the iPad 2.

Review of The Apple Ipad, 16Gb

Initially I had wanted an Amazon Kindle, not any old Kindle, I wanted the gusto in gadgets, I wanted the newest model, the largest model, and I wanted it to be in color. Sadly my search led me to blog after blog statingthis desire of mine would not be ready till 2012, and that was just a guess.

I decided to check out the Nook, and from what I discovered VIA user reviews, the Nook was too new, and too lacking for me to even bother with.

That was when I got around to thinking about an Apple iPad. I didn't need the latest and greatest, so I decided on the simple intro model, the $499 model containing 16GB of storage, and wifi. Just what I would need to download the Kindle APP and get busily reading on my new iPad. I had no idea just how addicting this device would be, and how much more I could do with it besides just catch up on a few books here and there. In fact I love the Apple iPad so much, that I imagine I will become one of those annoying Apple fan-boys that has to have all of the newest releases from Apple.

Why?

Well my friends, the best answer is simplicity.

I have never owned anything from Apple before. In fact I still prefer my PC for major workloads, but seriously when I am flopped in bed, and too lazy to hunker down in front of the PC I am grateful to have the iPad. For starters the device is small, and lightweight. Some have complained about the weight, but not once have I become affected by it, and this is coming from someone who has been toting the thing around religiously for days now.

Before getting into the simplicity of the Apple iPad, let me first drag you through the start up process, which is probably the one and only annoyance I have encountered with the iPad.

Now if you are new to Apple products, likely you are like me and you have never bothered with iTunes before. If that is the case, you will need to follow the simple directions included with your iPad to get the thing to work. I know I got miffed by this, because in order to get your iPad up and running, you are forced to plug in the included USB plug to your PC to download iTunes on to your iPad. Annoying I know, but it is necessary. Fear not though, the included card tells you the exact website you must visit in order to download iTunes on to your MAC or PC.

Once it is downloaded you plug in your iPad and wait for the device to sync. Once that is done, your iPad will be up and running, just waiting for you to take advantage of what it has to offer.

This is where the simplicity of t all takes place. It is so easy your mom could figure it out.

First you will need to slide your finger across the screen to unlock your iPad. This step is unnecessary, but fun to do. It makes you feel all secret agent and what not.

On the main screen you have a bunch of square icons that you simply tap in order to explore what they have to offer. You have a calender where you can set dates for, where the iPad will remind you in advance of such important dates.

Then you have notes, which like any cell phone allows you to post little important things to yourself according to date.

The App Store is directly on the main page, and this is where you unlock the golden empire for your iPad. You download music here, movies if you want, and of course a slew of applications that you can use. From games to weather apps, it is all there, a click away. Some applications are free, others cost a small amount of money, and some have monthly fees. Personally the share of free apps I have found thus far have been pretty gnarly.

iTunes is also pre loaded on the iPad, allowing you to access your music. I have no use for this as all o my music is on my PC. For those of you who use iTunes religiously though, the addition is really neat.

On the main page you will also find your Games Center where you can play any games you have downloaded from the App store. Farmville addicts like myself will appreciate the free Farmville App, and finally an ability to send in game content that only iPhone and iPad users have access to.

Maps is another free application directly built into the iPad. This app will give you directions, and is helpful for those who travel a lot. Those who purchase the 3G iPad will need to pay a monthly fee though in order to make use of the GS applications you can purchase in the App Store.

YouTube is built into the iPad as well allowing you to view movies on YouTube, or to view your own movies you already have uploaded onto YouTube.

Contacts and Videos are the final icons on the main screen. Contacts is basically your address book, and Video is where you can view any videos you have uploaded.

The rest is entirely up to you depending on what you have decided to download from the App Store, from free applications, to ones you decided to pay for. Simplicity here is phenomenal, and finding what you are looking for is as easy as a swipe of the finger.

The touch screen on the iPad is deliciously beautiful, and you are capable of adjusting the settings on the screens brightness. Everything is responsive, easy to use, and works without flaw. The things that bugs me most though is the fingerprints left behind. You can easily clean this however with a soft tissue. If that bothers you though you can purchase a screen protector, which I would recommend.

Volume on the Apple iPad is clear, and can be adjusted according to your preferences. Other external devices like docking speakers can be purchased as well, which can turn your iPad into a stereo, or an alarm clock radio. While docked on these external devices your iPad will also be charging its power, which is just another neat addition to an already awesome device.

A docking station may be necessary for some, as the wall plug that comes with the iPad is small, not giving you much room on plugging your iPad in, and setting it somewhere safely while it charges.

Overall:

I used to be against the iPad, calling it a wasteful Internet tablet, but truly this nifty device has made life easier, keeping up with my social network a breeze, and it is so fun and a heck of a lot more useful than I originally believed.

Do I recommend this device?

A big yes, 5 stars, and two thumbs up! I am an official fan of Apple now, and glad I finally gave the company a try. I am now using the iPad for tons more than just using it as an ebook reader (which by the way is phenomenal on the iPad, especially the Kindle Application which is free to download).

Comparison of Ebook Reading Applications For Apple Ipad

There are several eBook reading applications available for the Apple iPad, and it is no surprise that iBooks has been the popular choice of application since it is the one that is recommended by Apple - as is to be expected. Many iPad owners have had no previous experience of e-Readers and hence have no yardstick by which measure iBook's performance.

In fact, iBooks beats the competition in respect of its similarity to a real book, and the page turn, speed and layout are excellent. However, iBooks also has many shortcomings, mainly in functionality, largely due to Apple's desire to keep control over what can be read on the iPad. Thus, it enables DRM-free PDF and EPUB publications to be synced through iTunes directly to the iPad. A great feature, but not without its price!

The user must use iTunes through a computer before the book can be transferred to the iPad. This is OK if you have only a few books, but if you have a library of several hundred it gets very complicated using iTunes and syncing. It also means that, like all the other e-readers, iBooks is not compatible with other libraries. The problem here is that Amazon has the largest library of all, so iBooks users are being restricted in the choice available.

The Kindle app for iPad is a lot more functional: while Apple has focused on looks, Amazon has focused on functionality and if you prefer the way your e-reader works and the range of books available, Amazon's functionality beats the looks of iBooks hands down. According to the article "Which e-Reader is the Most Suitable for Me" (dbReaders), over 200'000 books are available for downloading from Kindle store which included those on the New York Times bestsellers, magazines and newspapers.

What other eBook reading applications for Apple iPad are worth considering other than the two giants? The Barnes & Noble Nook application is likely by far the best available for paid subscriptions. With a much easier reading screen than either of the other two, it is certainly worth considering if you pay for your reading material and if the publications are not more expensive than from Amazon or Apple. One draw-back is that you cannot upload your own EPUB material, and like the others is restrictive in content to that purchased only on the Barnes and Noble website.

Then there is the Kobo iPad app. If you would prefer to read your eBooks on a number of devices, such as your iPad, iPhone, PC, Blackberry or Palm, then the Kobo reader is best because all your content is stored externally on Kobobook's cloud and you can access it with practically any device. The e-reader is basic in terms in terms of features, but it is good enough, and definitely worth having if you have this multi-device requirement.

Finally, but by no means least, is the Stanza, a wonderful e-reader from Lexicycle, originally offered as an application for iPhone, but purchased by Amazon in 2009. This neat little e-reader is compatible with a vast range of file formats and can be synced with iTunes. Like the Kobo it can access clouded storage, but can also store your most-used eBooks internally. Add access to a wide range of free feeds and to paid titles, and this application is possibly more sophisticated than either iBooks or the Kindle app.

Since its launch, a number of e-Book reading applications for iPad have laid claim as the best of those available, and while iBooks would be Apple's first recommendation, a lot depends on what you use your iPad for. If it used primarily as an e-reader then it is a close call between the Kindle app and the Stanza, but if looks and the app that looks and works most like a real book are important to you, then Apple's own application will probably win.

Given the varying nature of prices and expensive prices, Apple iPad is not worth the money for the Indian users. It also seems that Apple is not interested in Indian market and that could be why they are not launching in India. So you cannot buy them in Bangalore, Mumbai or other Indian cities directly. It is also speculated that iPad may not find much of a market in India to make profit for Apple's expensive business.

For those looking for iPad, there are better alternatives such as PC tablets or e-readers, netbooks etc. which are much cheaper and available for buying directly in Indian stores without worrying about arrrival shipped products to your doorstep.

How To Reset Apple Ipad

Many times this can be easily fixed by resetting the Apple iPad. This is the same process the technicians will have you follow if you called in for technical support so why not try it yourself and save the hold time with bad music? Resetting the Apple iPhone will not damage your iPad it will actually give it a chance to reset all the internal processes and help it work better for you!

Things You'll Need:

Step 1

To reset the Apple iPad you should first locate the power button. This is the button on the top right corner of the iPad when you are holding it like a book, with the narrower sides on the top and bottom.

Step 2

Once you have located this button you will need to simply hold this button down for about 3 seconds or until you see the red slider icon (a red rectangle with a white arrow facing toward the right) come across the top of the screen. The slide area or the area to the right of the button will be labeled Slide to Power Off.

Step 3

If you want to just reboot to iPad you can do that by touching the red slider button and sliding your finger along the slider area toward the right side of your iPad. The iPad will automatically start shutting down, it may take it several seconds depending on the amount of space you are using on your iPad and the programs you had running when you requested the reboot.

Step 4

To turn the iPad back on or restart it after you have shut it down just press the power button (remember that's the button on the top right of the iPad).

How To Choose The Right Apple Ipad

No more one size fits all or the take it or leave it approach with this new Apple product. Not only are you able to choose the amount of storage your iPad has you can also choose the iPad with Wi-Fi only or add the upgrade option to include 3G coverage from AT&T in the U.S.

Instructions

Step 1

The first thing you need to do to choose the right Apple iPad is determine the amount of storage space you will need. Do you plan to keep a lot of pictures; you could use your iPad as a digital picture frame. Do you plan to keep files stored on your portable device; you can save spread sheets of your articles or blog writings? Do you want to have several applications like games and organization apps on your iPad? What about eBooks; you can use the iPad as an eReader for online books. If you plan to add a lot of items to your iPad its better to have more space. Even if you don't like to play games on your iPhone or iPod you may find that the iPad gaming experience is much better because of the larger screen and faster processor so when you are making your decision on size leave a little room for the possibility of needing the space.

Step 2

Next you should take into consideration where you plan to use your iPad. If you plan to only use your iPad at home or near a Wi-Fi connection you can choose the basic model that comes with the built in Wi-Fi connection. However, if you plan to take your portable iPad with you to area's that do not offer Wi-Fi connections you will need to purchase an iPad with the built in 3G capabilities. This will allow you to pay a small fee and have access to the internet for downloading apps or surfing the web anywhere you have 3G coverage. The upgraded iPad with the added 3G capability will only add about $130 to the total cost of the iPad so if there is a possibility that you will want to use the iPad away from a Wi-Fi connection its best to go ahead and get it. You can always add the service at a later time but if you don't get it you will have to either do without or purchase a new iPad when you decide you want it.

Step 3

Now you need to decide on a price for your new iPad. This is kind of predetermined by the features you selected in steps one and two but as with many people price does play an important part of the decision making process.

Wi-Fi only 16GB = $499 Wi-Fi only 32GB = $599 Wi-Fi only 64GB = $699

Wi-Fi and 3G 16GB = $629 Wi-Fi and 3G 32GB = $729 Wi-Fi and 3G 64GB = $829

If you noticed there price jumps a hundred dollars each time the storage size doubles. When you think about it an extra hundred dollars for double storage is not too bad really, but make sure you need the space since 16GB is a lot of room.

Also jumping from the Wi-Fi only device to the Wi-Fi with 3G is a price increase of $129. When you take into consideration not getting the 3G capable device could cost you $629 if you had to purchase the complete device later just to use the feature it's again pretty easy to justify getting the upgraded iPad instead of the basic.

Step 4

Now put the three things together to make sure you are getting the right Apple iPad for you!

How To Restart An Apple Ipad

Quick guide on how to reset or restart an Apple iPad.

The Apple iPad is a touch screen multimedia device that like all computer based devices can potentially freeze up, run slow, or crash in rare instances. Be prepared by knowing how to do a reset of the Apple iPad.

Hold the power button down for 3 to 5 seconds until a small box appears on screen. The power button on the iPad is located on the bottom portion of the device just below the screen.

Slide your finger across the virtual power slide switch towards the OFF position in the box that appears on the screen. You should slide your finger towards the right side.

Wait up to 15 seconds before proceeding.

Hold down the power button for 3 to 5 seconds until the iPad powers back up. The device has successfully been reset once the iPad main screen reappears on the screen.

If the iPad is frozen and you cannot access the virtual power slide switch to begin with, hold down the power button until the screen shuts off and power up screen appears. You may need to try this multiple times if the device does not respond the first time around.

Powering down the iPad when not in use can help conserve battery life and the life of the components. Doing a reset from time to time is also a good way to clear the memory cache and continue to allow the iPad to operate smoothly and quickly.

Kindle 4: Are Color E-Readers Really Necessary?

For other people though, reading a book via a Kindle just doesn't have that same appeal that real book has. Never the less, Amazon is set to release the Kindle 4 sometime this year. For the first time, the Kindle will feature a color display.

It doesn't seem long ago that Kindle was first launched. It's now in it's third different model though and with the fourth just around the corner. Kindle 4 promises to feature a full color display, but at what cost? Surely, most people want a Kindle to read normal paperback books, where a simple black and white display would suffice.

For it to venture into full color would put it into the safe category as the iPad perhaps? Probably not, seeing as though the Kindle 4 definitely won't have the processing power of the Apple iPad. So where does that leave the Kindle 4 then? Probably somewhere in between.

I just wonder how many people would want to invest that extra money in a color eBook reader? I personally like to read comics and graphic novels so a full color eBook reader would be quite cool, however I think I would be more inclined to spend some extra cash and just get the Apple iPad instead.

One thing is for sure, when Kindle 4 is released you can expect Kindle 3 to drop in price quite a lot. Maybe it would be best to just get a Kindle 3 once version 4 is released and save some money. In the mean time I could just get an iPad, but then the word on the street is that iPad 2 is on it's way!

In this day and age when technology is so fast moving, it's difficult to know what to buy! Whatever you buy now will cost a lot less in a few months to come. But if you wait a few months to buy, then there will always be something else just around the corner.

I think Kindle 4 would be a good investment depending on two things. Firstly the price and secondly the size of the display. Full color isn't that appealing if the display isn't very big. Hopefully Amazon will get it right!

It is always cheaper to buy directly in stores in India in any city (Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad) rather than to buy online when you can spare time. Prices can vary from store to store and offers can change from festival days (Dussera, Diwali, Sankranti, Pongal, Ugadi, New Year, Christmal, etc.) to non-festival days. You will also be able to get a hands on experience before buying the product if that is new for you.

I have been noticing that some electronic or consumer electronic stores are selling these goods at same price as market price (other electronic stores) but place a higher MRP tag and an offer price tag showing a discount. It helps to check several stores to get a good idea of current prices in the market before deciding to buy. It applies to online shopping as well.
