Apple certainly like it when there's a whole load of hype surrounding the launch of their latest device - and with good reason, because hype equals excitement which equals more press coverage which equals more sales!
And the rumour mill has been grinding up nuggets of information about the iPhone 5 from as early as Dec 2010, so we've got plenty of juice to keep us interested!
But Apple are notorious for being a tightly-run ship, with official information pretty much locked down until launch day - God help any employee to break news before launch! (The only aberration being that incident where the iPhone 4 was lost in a bar before its launch in 2010...)
So, although we've got rumours aplenty to keep us salivating, almost none of them are confirmed... until now!No, not by those at Camp Cupertino (Apple's HQ) - but the source is almost as reliable. Vodafone have leaked some information about the iPhone 5 out onto the web, quickly snapped up by AppleInsider, and taken to be almost as official as you can get!
Almost-official info
Vodafone's early publish all but confirms that the iPhone 5 will be available in Black and White, and in 16GB and 32GB models - not surprising considering previous iPhone and iPad launches following the same pattern.
Still, any iPhone 5 news is good iPhone news! And what would be even more welcome is finding out when we can get our hands on one!
The leak was found on Vodafone's Sure Signal page. Sure Signal is a product that allows you to boost your mobile signal at home by rooting it through your Wi-Fi router. The page clearly showed that the Sure Signal router would be compatible with the iPhone 5 16GB, iPhone 5 32GB, iPhone 5 White 16GB and the iPhone 5 32GB - so we can expect the full set from Apple when the iPhone 5 launches sometime soon! Although we are not sure why Vodafone needs to make it explicit that both colours are compatible - surely the only difference between them will be the colour?!
That said, we appreciate the news, so thank you Vodafone! They of course quickly removed the offending information from their page, but seeing as the networks usually have prior information on phone launches, we reckon it is a pretty safe bet to say the iPhone will launch in all these varieties.
