Jailbreaking: What Can You Do

Jailbreaking, sounds illegal right, but in fact, according to a law passed by the US Government, Jailbreaking, moding, unlocking is Legal, but obviously, unless your some idiot, you will know that Install0us and similar programs are illegal due to copyright infringement.

Now when you jailbreak, you have a variety of different choices you can do, for instance, you can set up a custom firmware to restore to, this firmware can have your own customized boot logo's (not compactable with blackra1n, spirit or Jailbreakme) and recovery logo to make sure you know your device is yours. You can also set up your device to have things like Cydia or Rock. These are programs that will allow you to download a variety of different applications, themes and mods to your Idevice.

For instance you can get a program called Winterboard. This allows you to theme your device to your own customization and also change the text it says (formally known as System Strings) when for instance you have to disable a alarm. It will even change your slide to Unlock text. Themes can be many things, for instance you can get themes for your Icons or make a theme for your video player. Some themes require blank apps or different app locations. This can be achieved by using either Iblank which is a blank space maker or Gridlock (Paid) which will allow you to directly move the application to a desired spot. Another cool program you have to have is Vwallpaper (check YouTube for details), this will allow you to change your background to a video (no volume) and if you want to, have a semi-transparent image over the top.

One of my favorite mods though is still five row springboard column. This allows you to have 5x5 rows instead of 4x4 (in IOS 4.0 it is 5x4), meaning if your on 3.0 or below, you can have more applications. The same can be done using a different mod for the Multi-Tasking Bar and the Dock.

In Cydia there is also a Theme that allows you to merge your music and video app together, this is great if you want to put music videos in playlists. This also saves space on the Dock which I normally like to cram full of my favorite apps (Winterboard, Facebook, Cydia).
