Apple iPad 2- Does it Have Much to Boast of? - Technology - Cell Phones

It wasn't too long ago that Apple rocked the computing world when they introduced a 9.7 inch touchscreen tablet called the iPad. A lot of people were very skeptical about this tablet and made jokes about it and even called it "just an over-grown iPhone.

Now Apple has introduced the iPad 2 tablet. Yes, it is thinner, it is lighter and it is faster than the original iPad, but beyond that it is basically still the same. The question is: can it maintain a place in the computing world that is loaded with tablets using the amazing Android system?

The Good:

The first thing consumers will notice about the iPad 2 is the price. In the UK it will be 30 pounds cheaper than its predecessor. The iPad 2 is also thinner and lighter. The iPad 2 is 241 mm tall, 186 mm wide and 8.6 mm thick. Making it a little bit smaller than the original iPad and thinner than an iPhone 4. Another smart design change is the curved edge which makes it easier to hold since you can wrap your fingers around the bezel.

The iPad 2 also offers a large variety of Apps. This tablet should probably be used only for fun since there is a large selection of apps and games in the Apps store, so you will never be bored.

The apps include things like a guitar tuner, photo editor and lots more. Gamers will be thrilled with the selection of gory, first-person shooters as well as addictive puzzles.

You can even book your holidays and plan anything from your work-outs to important meetings. The iPad 2 offers the user a front and rear facing camera. With FaceTime, which is included on this tablet, you can chat with friends and family using the front or rear facing camera. The video quality is just as good if not better then Skype. Unfortunately you can only talk with people who have a Mac, iPhone 4, iPod Touch or iPad 2.

The Bad:

One of the biggest draw-backs of the iPad has been its lack of Flash and this still holds true with the iPad2. However, it is becoming less of a problem because a lot of sites are catering to Apple by introducing Flash- free redesigns.

The iPad 2 supports iTunes home sharing so you can play media from your computer onto your tablet using Wi-Fi. Even though it is expensive, you may still want to buy all your media from iTunes, because it is too much of a hassle to convert non iTune content back and forth.

Yet another draw-back is that the iPad 2 losses memory when there are multiple web pages opens. When you go back to a page, it has to start from scratch to reload. Unfortunately this caching issue still needs a lot of work.
